The main premise of the game is to be dealt cards adding up to twenty-one. Every gambler is given 2 cards. When a blackjack player is dealt a 9 or less and an Ace they've been given a soft hand. When the gambler is dealt no Ace cards it is known as a hard hand. As soon as the cards have been handed to every player at the blackjack table, including the dealer, every black jack player is provided the chance to make one of six actions:

Requesting another card (Hit): When a gambler says "hit me" the dealer will deal him another card, if the addition of that card makes the value of the hand to exceed 21 the black jack player will have lost and be excluded from the game, if the card makes the value of the hand to twenty-one the black jack player wins and if the value of the hand has not yet reached 21 they're still in the game.

Keeping the hand you have been given: If a player is happy with the cards they will stand. As soon as this has happened the dealer will reveal his/her hand and the blackjack player who has gotten twenty-one or the closet to twenty-one will acquire a win.

Doubling Down: A blackjack player might request to double down which doubles the bet they have laid. As soon as you have taken this action you can only be given 1 more card. The details of doubling down are often specified by the table or casino rules so prior to wagering make sure you're comfortable with the house rules. If you are gambling at an online betting house this is usually quite easy.
